As part of this activity, I decided to have breakfast in Old San Juan. I discovered a cute brunch place called Waffle-era in Calle San Jose. I was greeted immediately when I entered the restaurant. To stay in character I spoke only English and wore a Hawaiian shirt and a camera around my neck. I asked the waitress for suggestions on where I should go in Puerto Rico. She suggested I visit El Yunque and told me that if I had the opportunity I should go spend the day in Culebra, where the beach is breath-taking. Overall, I was treated with a little more respect than I would have been as a fellow Puerto Rican. I feel like people were nicer and always willing to help with directions or translations. Afterward, I went to the beach in Ocean Park. There was a lady selling homemade empanadillas. When she stopped by where I was I asked her what empanadillas were. Even though she didn't speak much English, the lady made an enormous effort to help me. In the end, I bought two chicken empanadillas that were very delicious. The lady was extremely kind and was happy to hear that I loved her empanadillas. In conclusion, I believe Puerto Ricans treat tourists with a little more respect than they do other Puerto Ricans. They always make sure that tourists are having a nice time and that they feel welcome when they visit the island. for these reasons, I would definitely recommend Puerto Rico to anyone in need of an island getaway.
