MultiGenre Activity: Going For A Walk

For this project, I had to choose a block I usually walk through. My significant other lives about five houses from mine. I walk from my house to his and back every day. I chose this street for my walk. The first thing I noticed is that my next door neighbors were back from their weekend away. I know this because their boat is parked in front of their house and it wasn't there during the weekend. This usually bothers me, since the boat takes up a lot of space on the street and it makes it a little difficult to pass with my car. Next, I waved at a neighbor that was also out for a walk with her son and dog, a 4-month-old Weimaraner named Mili. The next thing I noticed was that another neighbor had changed his front door. Before it was made out of wood and looked antique. Now they have a more modern, metal door that looks a lot better than the old one. Directly across the street from that house, I noticed that another house had gone through renovations. There were construction materials in front of the house and I noticed they had renovated their terrace. They made a ceiling with lights and an outdoor bathroom next to their pool. They also changed the garage flooring. These changes were huge improvements. A few houses after that, I saw another neighbor talking on his phone in front of his house. I see this neighbor the great majority of times I take this walk. This time, however, his son was also outside with their Golden Retriever while he did his business on the front lawn. The last thing I saw while out walking was a woman walking her two dogs, both Bull Terriers. I noticed that the walk was more therapeutic and calming this time that I was aware of my surroundings. Usually, while out on this walk, I'm either on the phone or on auto-pilot, not looking around and taking in my surroundings. It felt nicer and more relaxing seeing what my neighbors are doing. I didn't really see anything that I hadn't seen before, as the walk is short and there aren't many changes from day to day. This walk would've been a lot more interesting if I lived in a place like New York City where there are a lot more people and places to look at. Overall, this was a nice exercise and I enjoyed taking a mental break from studying to go for a walk and distract myself looking at my neighbors and their cute dogs. I wish there had been a longer walk I usually take so I could've had more time to de-stress.
